This was written for a university assignment- totally legit! How epic is this course?!!! :D If its a good one, I'll let you know what mark I got when I get it back :P Oh, and I had to change names and the like- like 'CONCORD' to 'Republic Fleet' to help those who don't play EVE to understand. You know what its like trying to understand this game :P
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walking towards her quarters, the space pirate known as Naughty Cargo
chuckled to herself. She had had a great run today, covering her usual grounds
and getting a good number of kills. The asteroid ‘care bear’ miners, their
lasers eating away at the resources they craved, were no challenge for the
blasters her ship held. She had successfully evaded the Republic Fleet, the
defenders of high security space, and had even discovered a new route through
her regular systems that would carve her travel time in half.
Her worn boots echoed along the dimly lit hallway, the iron grid on the
ground causing a metallic ring with each step. The ships corridors seemed
dimmer than usual, the place getting older and more run down with each passing
day. She’d have to dock up somewhere to get some decent repairs. But never mind
that now- it was time to relax and look over today’s loot.
Reaching the quarters she called her own, Naughty swept her hand across
the scanner that opened the lock and stepped into the room, about to drop her
bag on the chair next to the door. The movement stopped in its tracks as her
eyes fell on the back of the room, and the door to her personal chamber hanging
open, ripped off its hinges.
Without even thinking, her hand slipped to the holster and picked up the
pistol that hung conveniently off her belt. Her eyes quickly took in the rest
of the room, the main area of her quarters undisturbed. She crossed the room in
a few long steps, flinging herself into the doorway, her arm outstretched with
the weapon at the ready. Seeing no one in the room she straightened up, only to
feel her heart drop in response. The drawers next to the bed were wide open,
the contents spread all over the floor. She stepped forward, dropping to her
knees and discarding the pistol. Rummaging through her most precious
possessions, she prayed silently to some God she didn’t know. Let it be there…
With a loud cry Naughty rested her head on the floor in front of her,
shutting her eyes tight and clenching her fists. Lying just in front of her,
there was a small mahogany box, the lid ripped rudely off. It’s ornately carved
stars and planets couldn’t conceal the damage that had been done, and the set of
jewelry that was missing. The pirate could feel her chest restricting, and
though her eyes suddenly felt hot, no tears escaped. No.
In space, there is no room for tears. Life on the fringe of the galaxy,
a pirate and an outcast, hunted for her bounty, had taught her that tears
helped no one and that you really have to look out for number one first and
foremost, a fact she had demonstrated on more than one occasion.
There had been a charming, seemingly kind man, not long ago, who had
taught her the joy that could come from the life they both led. He, in his all-knowing way, had taught
her how to trust and how asking for help is alright. It was a pity His caring had all been a big farce. As
such, she had an idea where this particular set of jewelry had gone. There was
only one person that knew how important the heirlooms were to her and one
person who had ever seen this personal section of her hideout. She kicked the
box across the room as she stood back up and turned to face the door again, her
mouth set in a tight line and her eyes steady, an almost eerie calm taking over
her whole persona. No use sitting and agonizing over what was lost. It was time
to deal with what was accessible. And she knew exactly what she had to do.
Picking up her pistol, leaving the room as it was, she strode back out,
making a beeline for the main entrance to the command ships hangar. The man
slumped just inside the main access door looked up as she approached, and a shriek
could heard as she grabbed the man’s shirt at the collar and tugged as hard as
she could. She looked straight into the coward’s eyes and spoke one word.
“Who?”
The man squirmed a little, testing her grasp and allowing it to tighten
even more. His eyes flickered to the door as he mumbled a few words, and she
leant forward, her eyes still focused on his with a firm determination. “C’mon!
Out with it Burke! How much did they pay you, you good for nothing scum?”
Burke glanced up at her and spoke again, his voice trembling. “The Chain
paid me off. 2 million ISK. A guy they called Ty.”
Her eyes flickered with a sudden anger and the man gulped, having never
seen the woman this furious. He tried to get away again and she pulled him
forwards, knocking him off his balance. Tugging him to the door, she threw it
open and shoved him forward, kicking his back. Drawing her pistol out she
pressed it to his back and felt him stiffen, standing up slowly and holding his
hands out.
“Move.”
He complied without saying anything and very soon the man known as Burke
was in an auto pod, on his way to the outer asteroid rim, most likely never to
return.
Naughty took a deep breath as she watched the pod warp out of the area,
the trail from it causing a slight tremble to rattle through the body of the
main ship as it passed. To anyone who would be watching, it seemed as if the
tremble ran through Naughty’s own body too, but the human eye was often quick
to trick the mind. Nothing made Naughty Cargo tremble.
She strode to the other side of the hangar from the auto pod bay and all
but slammed her fist down on the access pad next to the large door. She laid
her hand for a moment on the outside of her trusty assault ship- the Jaguar. It
had served her well, and would serve her well today. With no word to her
second-in-command, she boarded the smaller ship and took the pilot’s seat, the
worn leather providing a sudden comfort. This trip would be a quick one.
Undocking without a thought, Naughty let the never-ending void of space
take hold of the Jaguar, setting a course for the ship to follow, a veteran of
such things. The co-ordinates were easy to remember- He had made sure of that. Surely He had known she would come after Him after discovering this betrayal. With a wry smile, the pirate
realised this was probably what He
wanted. Shrugging, she watched space go by like a sped up black and white movie,
not caring how long the trip took or what was around. Her usually active
scanner stayed dormant as her mind calmed itself. Hunting was not the target of
this evening.
Feeling the Jaguar shudder around her as it neared its destination, the
woman took one last deep breath and steeled herself more than usual. Pirate.
That was what she was, and always would be. This would be a piece of cake. Or
at least, that’s what Naughty was going to tell herself.
Seeing the asteroid and its almost clinical buildings appear didn’t
break her resolve. The lack of enemy ships didn’t really surprise her. He had always been slightly too cocky
for his own good.
Gently guiding the Jaguar into a nearby docking ring, Naughty looked out
at the complex. Two rugged looking men were approaching through the clear
hallway that connected the ring to the main complex. Good- they shouldn’t be too much work. Setting the ship down, she
waited, opening the outer door after the ring had closed its entrance. The
hired mercenaries approached the unknown Jaguar, watching the open space in the
hull warily. Hesitating for a moment, the bigger of the two moved closer,
sticking his head into the open space, a knife in his hand.
Naughty didn’t hesitate- she grabbed the first man and pulled him
forward, slamming his head into the wall as hard as she could, his own momentum
cementing his fate. Taking the first man’s knife, she jerked her wrist,
throwing the weapon straight at the second man. His warning shout was cut short
as the blade embedded itself between his eyes.
The pirates’ eyes seemed to grow even harder as she stepped over the
corpses, her movements fluid and quick. Moving down the corridor, she stopped
for a moment in front of the sealed titanium door. Praying again to that
unknown God, Naughty opened the barrier in front of her. She didn’t even flinch
at the face standing on the other side- the man who had stolen more than just
her jewelry.
Ty smiled at the woman in front of him.
The space pirate known as Naughty Cargo didn’t even hesitate as she drew
her gun and pulled the trigger.
